Emerge in primo luogo il mondo della prostituzione, a cui Mamma Roma rimarrà legata
nonostante i suoi sforzi per uscirne. Rappresentato con toni ironici e grotteschi, vede come figura
umana solo la prostituta Biancofiore, capace di autentica solidarietà nei confronti della protagonista.
L’altra realtà fotografata è quella del gruppo di adolescenti, immerso e integrato nel paesaggio
suburbano: essi vengono raffigurati come uno stormo di uccelli che si radunano e si disperdono con
uguale rapidità. Il gruppo rappresenterà uno dei fattori più condizionanti per la personalità fragile di
Ettore. Infine viene messa in evidenza la falsità dell’ambiente piccolo borghese nelle scene della
chiesa, in cui sono inquadrati con ironia i rappresentanti del mondo benpensante del quartiere:
all'interno di questo universo si stacca la figura del parroco, rappresentante insieme della
concretezza e del buon senso, ma anche sostenitore di quel principio di responsabilità individuale
cui né la protagonista né il regista riescono a credere fino in fondo.

-Tous les jeunes qui sont dans le film sont censés être des amis d’Ettore, ce sont de jeunes délinquants.

There was Mamma Roma’s world of prostitution. This world is represented in an ironical and grotesque way.  In this world there is only Biancofiore.  She is the best friend of Mamma Roma and she understands her. 

There is the adolescent’s world too.   Boys are represent like a flock of birds that assemble and disperse with the same rapidity.  The group represents one of the most important factors influencing Ettore’s personality. 

The falseness of the middle-classes world is underlined in the scene in the church, where are arranged the 'right' thinking people of the quarter.  In this universe there is the priest that represent the concreteness and good sense, but he is the supporting of responsabitily too. Mamma Roma and Pasolini do not believe in complete responsibility in the world.
